Dominique Ansel Bakery is one of those NYC spots that feels genuinely magical for kids and grown-ups alike. Opened in SoHo in 2011 by James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Dominique Ansel, this is the birthplace of the iconic Cronut® — a croissant-doughnut hybrid that changed the pastry world — plus a rotating lineup of imaginative treats that are equal parts dessert and theater.
The standout kid-friendly items include the Cookie Shot (a warm chocolate chip cookie shaped like a shot glass, filled with cold vanilla milk — sip, then eat), the Frozen S'more (vanilla ice cream wrapped in honey marshmallow, torched tableside on a smoked willow wood branch), and the Blossoming Hot Chocolate (a marshmallow flower that blooms open in a cup of hot chocolate). These aren't just snacks — they're experiences, and kids go wide-eyed every time. The Cronut® flavor changes monthly and never repeats, so even repeat visitors have a reason to come back.
The shop is small and narrow, so expect a line — especially on weekends. Arrive right at 8 AM for the shortest wait and best pastry selection. Cronuts can be pre-ordered online every Monday at 11 AM EST for pick-up two weeks out, or try your luck with walk-in availability throughout the day. The open kitchen gives curious kids a peek at the pastry team at work.
