The Great Hill is the third-highest natural point in Central Park, stretching roughly from 103rd to 107th Street on the park's west side. At the summit sits a large open meadow surrounded by trees, making it one of the few spots in Central Park with picnic tables — perfect for family gatherings, birthday parties, and casual lawn games.
A quarter-mile oval track encircles the grassy lawn, a surviving feature from a Robert Moses-era recreation area established in the 1940s. In 1985, the Central Park Conservancy restored the site to its original Olmsted and Vaux green-lawn design. Several intimate glades to the west of the main lawn offer quieter spots for resting, linked by paths overlooking Central Park West.
On-site amenities include a seasonal public restroom (wheelchair accessible, closed in winter), benches, and picnic tables on a first-come, first-served basis. The area is relatively uncrowded compared to other parts of Central Park, and paved paths make it accessible with a stroller. Open daily 6:30 AM–9:00 PM; free admission.
