Elliott's Classes is a children's gym on the Upper West Side developed by Elliott Cortez, Ph.D., a child psychologist and former gymnast. His "Elliott Method" combines movement science with child development theory, taking a success-based rather than skills-based approach — kids are praised for attempting challenges, not just completing them.
The gym offers free classes for infants up to 6 months (no sign-up required — just bring a blanket), plus a free trial class for children new to the paid program. The infant class introduces babies to new stimuli like music, bells, hoops, and vivid colors, and is a popular entry point for new parents looking to build community. Paid programming for ages 6 months through 14 years includes progressive gymnastics, ninja obstacle courses, ballet, hip hop dance, and a preschool alternative program.
Open play is available Monday through Thursday during fall and winter seasons, with age-segmented time slots and equipment including a tumble track, balance beam, swing bar, and obstacle courses. The gym is on the lower level of its building, with stroller parking at the entrance and bathrooms on the same floor.
