Wave Hill is a stunning 28-acre public garden and cultural center perched in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, offering sweeping views of the Hudson River and the Palisades. The grounds feature beautifully curated gardens, an eight-acre woodland, expansive lawns, and rotating contemporary art exhibitions at Glyndor Gallery — all set within a historic 1843 estate.
Families will love the Weekend Family Art Project, offered free with admission on Saturday and Sunday mornings, featuring hands-on nature-inspired art making. Wave Hill also offers year-round educational programs for school groups from Pre-K through 12th grade, as well as camp programs for ages 3–14, all aligned with NGSS and Common Core standards. The café serves grab-and-go items with outdoor terrace seating, and a picnic area is available near the gallery.
Admission is free all day Thursdays for the general public, and free for active-duty military and their families from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day as part of the Blue Star Museums program. A free shuttle runs hourly Thursdays through Sundays from the #1 train's last stop at Van Cortlandt Park/West 242nd Street.
