Urban Dunes is New York City's first and only indoor sandbox play space, tucked inside a converted Carnegie Hill townhouse at 122 East 91st Street on the Upper East Side. Spread across two floors, the space features three themed sandboxes — Dino Dig, Golden Beach, and Construction Zone — giving kids ages 0–9 a unique sensory play experience no matter the weather outside.
Beyond the sandboxes, Urban Dunes offers an Arts & Crafts Room designed for children ages 2–9, with themed hands-on projects that extend the imaginative worlds of each sandbox zone. The space also hosts story time programming, birthday party packages (starting at $800 + tax for up to 12 kids), and a Sand Explorers Day Camp — a structured drop-off program blending guided play, hands-on learning, and creative exploration. Monthly memberships are available at $270/month.
Note: Urban Dunes is not stroller-friendly — the converted townhouse has steps up to the main floor and a narrow staircase down to the lower sandbox level. Plan accordingly and leave the stroller at home.
