The Randall's Island Urban Farm is a one-acre working farm and outdoor classroom operated by the Randall's Island Park Alliance on the southern end of Randall's Island. Since 2006, the farm has grown to feature over 100 raised beds, two greenhouses, four rice paddies, and a small fruit tree orchard — producing more than 3,500 lbs of food annually, with over 60% donated to the LSA Food Pantry serving 350 families in East Harlem.
Kids and teens can get hands-on with planting, harvesting, weeding, and composting during free public weekend hours (April–September, 10 AM–3:30 PM) or through the Edible Education Program, a free seed-to-table curriculum available to K–12 school groups and youth organizations by appointment. The farm also runs a Community Compost Program in partnership with Big Reuse, teaching visitors about soil health and food waste reduction.
Volunteer Sundays run weekly from roughly March through October (10 AM–1 PM) and are open to anyone age 10 and up; kids under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult. A public restroom and picnic area are located adjacent to the farm site.
