Our House NYC is New York City's only dedicated, free-standing grief support center for children, teens, adults, and families. Founded in Los Angeles in 1993 and expanded to New York City in 2025, the organization offers peer grief support groups designed to help people feel less isolated after the death of someone close.
Groups are matched by age, relationship to the person who died, and stage of grief — so a grieving child and a grieving teenager aren't lumped together, and a surviving parent is placed with others navigating similar life circumstances. Support groups are free, co-led by trained volunteer group leaders, and offered both in-person and virtually. Our House NYC also offers Spanish-language groups and school-based grief support.
The Family Support Program places children and caregivers in separate, age-matched groups that run concurrently, so the whole family gets support at once. Groups are not drop-in; families are placed intentionally after an intake process. This is a genuinely rare resource: free, structured, peer-based grief support specifically designed for kids and families — not a crisis hotline and not therapy, but ongoing community.
