L/CPL Thomas P. Noonan Jr. Playground — affectionately known as 'Rainbow Park' — is a beloved 1.05-acre outdoor park in the heart of Sunnyside, Queens. Named after Medal of Honor recipient L/CPL Thomas P. Noonan Jr., a local Vietnam War hero, the park features a signature rainbow spray shower that makes it a summertime favorite for families across the neighborhood.
A $2 million renovation in 2015 transformed the playground with fully accessible equipment, dedicated play areas for toddlers (ages 2–5) and older children (ages 5–12), additional swings, and the iconic spray shower. In 2024, a $2.5 million dog run was added, making the park a destination for pet owners as well. Additional amenities include basketball courts, handball courts, public restrooms, and plenty of benches and seating for caregivers. The park is conveniently located about one block from the 40th Street stop on the 7 train.
