K280 – The School of Journeys is a free NYC DOE pre-kindergarten center serving children in 3K and Pre-K (ages 3–4) in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn. Housed in the historic Bishop Ford complex, the school draws deep inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach, encouraging children to ask questions, explore, and express themselves through art, drama, music, and writing.
Every day, three- and four-year-olds pick up their journals and head out on 'journeys' — daily walks and field trips into the neighborhood where they make snow angels, examine icicles, and observe the seasons change in real time. The school offers confirmed amenities including outdoor space reserved for younger children, after-school care, early morning drop-off, and meals. The building is shared with Brooklyn Urban Garden Charter School and MS 442.
Parents should note that the sturdy old building has no in-classroom bathrooms — children walk approximately one city block inside the building with an adult to reach restrooms. Applications are submitted through MySchools (MySchools.nyc) each spring for the following September, and families may rank up to 12 school choices. The building is rated Partially Accessible by the NYC DOE.
