High Rock Park is the cornerstone of Staten Island's 2,800-acre Greenbelt and one of NYC's most genuine wilderness experiences. It features six color-coded walking trails that wind through forested hills, wetlands, and past five named ponds including Walker Pond, Stump Pond, and Hourglass Pond. Wildlife is abundant — wood ducks, great blue herons, muskrats, hawks, owls, frogs, turtles, and deer all call the park home.
Adventurous kids can climb Mt. Moses, a 260-foot hill with panoramic views considered among NYC's most spectacular. The park is home to the Greenbelt Conservancy's headquarters, which runs environmental education programs for students from pre-K through college. It was designated a National Environmental Education Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1971.
