Calvary Hospital's Bereavement Department offers comprehensive grief support services for children, teens, young adults, and adults throughout the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan — open to anyone who has experienced the death of a significant person, whether or not they had any connection to Calvary Hospital or Calvary Hospice.
Age-based children's groups include Precious Moments (ages 6–9), Tween Group (ages 10–12), and Teen Group (ages 13–17), offered in-person at the Bronx campus and in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, as well as virtually. All children, adolescent, and young adult (ages 18–25) services are provided at no cost. Adult groups are organized by relationship to the deceased and are available for a nominal fee.
A free monthly drop-in virtual support group for parents and guardians of grieving children meets on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 PM. Specialty adult groups include a Men's Group, a Mindfulness & Movement Group combining talk with yoga and guided visualization, and a Spanish-language group. Children and teens enrolled in the program are also invited to register for CampCompass®, a free week-long bereavement summer day camp held each August.
Anyone interested in attending a support group must first schedule a brief intake meeting with a bereavement counselor. To schedule, call 718-518-2281 or email calvarybereavement@calvaryhospital.org. The administrative office is open Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM.
