Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a beloved 52-acre oasis in Crown Heights where families can explore nature, seasonal blooms, and hands-on gardening programs year-round. Children under 12 are always admitted free, making it an accessible destination for families across the borough.

The garden's Children's Garden is designed to cultivate a love of nature in kids ages 2–13, who can plant their own crops and flowers and harvest them under the guidance of garden instructors. The Family Gardening Hours program brings caregivers and children together at activity stations throughout the Children's Garden, where participants plant seeds, water vegetables and flowers, create nature crafts, taste fresh produce, and dig in the soil — registration is required and cost includes garden admission.

For drop-in visitors, Kids' Discovery Stations in the Discovery Garden let children of all ages explore plants and use real science tools alongside Discovery Docents, free with garden admission. On special open house days, the Children's Garden opens to the public and includes the chance to dig for worms in the Dig Zone. The garden features restrooms, a seasonal snack bar, and is fully stroller-accessible. Admission is Pay-What-You-Wish on winter weekdays (Tuesday–Friday, December–February).
